An alumnus of Suffolk Community College, Karen Perez completed the Sign Language Interpreting program after receiving a BA in Sociology from Stony Brook University. She went on to achieve a MA in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) from Columbia International University.  She has taught English as a Second Language in five countries.  Karen spent four years in the Czech Republic, where she experienced new challenges as she learned the Czech language.  Karen is a nationally certified interpreter, and a member of RID and ASLTA.  She teaches American Sign Language I (SL10) and II (SL14). Her interests lie in cross-cultural communication and second language acquisition.
