Christine Carrasco is an alumnus of Suffolk Community College. She completed her AAS degree in Liberal Arts with a concentration of American Sign Language in 1995. Once her degree at SCCC was completed she transferred to Bloomsburg University’s Interpreter Training program where she graduated in 1997 with her BS in Interpretation. In 1999 she received her RID certification for Transliteration and then her certification for Interpretation in 2003. Christine is currently working as a Free-Lance Sign Language Interpreter for Mill Neck Interpreting Services, and has been active in the field for a little over 6 years. Christine also is a member of NYMetro RID, and LIRID. She has been interested in learning American Sign Language since a teacher in elementary school first exposed her to it. There are no Deaf members in her family, but that did not stop her from pursuing her interest in the language. In addition to being a certified interpreter and a new professor to SCC she is also the mother of a 5-year-old boy.

“I truly enjoy the fact that every teacher is a student and every student is a teacher. No matter  what age we are or how much experience we have there is always something we can learn from each other. Knowledge is power, and with great power comes great responsibility.”
