Chapter

  Purpose:  The purpose of Lambda Epsilon Chi is to recognize persons who have
  demonstrated superior academic performance in an established program of paralegal
  studies offered at an institution that is a voting member in good standing of the American
  Association for Paralegal Education.  Students shall be inducted into the S.C.C.C.
  chapter of LEX each spring semester.

  Eligibility:    Membership in LEX is based on the following criteria and
   qualifications:

  1. The student must be matriculated in the paralegal studies A.A.S. degree program (333-1) or paralegal studies certificate program (433-1).  The student may attend on either a full time or part time basis.
  2. The student may not be inducted into LEX unless the student, at the time of application, shall have completed forty-six (46) credits of the requirements of the degree program (333-1) or twenty-three (23) credits of the certificate program (433-1).
  3. The student must demonstrate superior academic performance by the achievement of a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5 based on courses completed at Suffolk County Community College only, with a 3.5 GPA in the paralegal program.  The student must be enrolled in at least one course at S.C.C.C. during the semester of application.
  4. The student must submit one copy of a legal project prepared as part of the course requirements of the paralegal program (i.e., articles of incorporation, partnership agreement, will, trust,  probate forms).  The project must be graded and include the comments of the professor.  The project must have been completed and graded no less than two years prior to this application.
  5. The student must prepare a persuasive personal statement of no more than four hundred (400) words describing the reasons why he/she chose to enter the legal field, any factors he/she had to overcome to be admitted into the paralegal program, and how his/her experiences prepared him/her for a professional career in law.
  6. The deadline for submission of applications for membership and all required attachments to either of the LEX contact persons is 5:00 pm on March 5, 2007.
  7. Inductees into Lambda Epsilon Chi must pay a fee of $30.00 by certified check or money order to the AAFPE prior to induction.
