ACADEMIC COMPUTING CENTERS

Academic computing centers have been established on all three campuses to serve the computing needs of students. The Ammerman Campus Academic Computing Center, located on the lower level of the Huntington Library, provides a convenient location where students can enhance computer skills using PC and Macintosh computers based on their individual needs and desires. Similar labs are in operation in the Orient Building on the Eastern Campus and the Sagtikos and Health, Sports and Education Buildings on the Grant Campus. In addition to providing an avenue for computer literacy, the labs are centers for word processing, programming and computer-assisted instruction. Faculty may schedule class meetings in these facilities and/or make class assignments for independent work. In addition, portable computer and computer projection units are available to faculty.

Additional computers are available to students in the Writing Center on the Ammerman Campus and the Academic Skills Centers on the Eastern and Grant campuses.

There are additional computer facilities dedicated to particular disciplines and functions located throughout all three campuses.

CLASSROOM FURNITURE AND EQUIPMENT

Furniture is to be arranged for the most effective teaching. However, it is the responsibility of the instructor that the room have an orderly appearance. Chalkboards/whiteboards are to be erased at the end of the session. Floors and tables are to be left in an orderly manner and the room left in appropriate condition for the next class. Please emphasize care of college property. To conserve energy, lights are to be turned off when classroom or other facilities are not in use.

Furniture should not be moved from one room to another. All items are inventoried and must remain in place for checking and auditing purposes.

College equipment and supplies are to be used only for legitimate instructional or other college purposes; they are not to be employed on or off campus for personal use or financial gain.

Requests for maintenance or repairs should be forwarded to the campus director of maintenance and security through the building administrators. Custodians should not be contacted directly unless there is an emergency and the building administrator or the director of maintenance and security cannot be reached

OFFICE OF GRANTS DEVELOPMENT

The Office of Grants Development (OGD) provides all pre-award and post-award support services related to grants and contracts. Pre-award services include assistance with identification of funding sources, preparation of grant applications, and contacting funding sources. Post-award services include monitoring budgets, assisting with the submission of reports, and providing advice on compliance with funding agencies.

To facilitate coordination of the grant efforts of SCCC faculty and staff, the director of the proposed project should contact the Grants Director or submit a Letter of Intent to Submit to OGD whenever a grant submission is being considered. SCCC's Office of Grants Development is responsible for reviewing the final draft proposal and proposed budget, ensuring SCCC's approval of all cost-share/matching funds prior to submission, attaching a cover (submittal) letter, and mailing the completed proposal to the appropriate funding agency. All proposals submitted for funding, to either private or public sources, must be received by OGD at least twenty (20) working days prior to the submission due date so that the budget can be reviewed both by OGD and the Central Office of Business and Financial Services (OBFS). After a grant or contract proposal has been submitted, the Project Director must complete a SCCC Grant Submission Form as soon as possible. OGD assists the Project Director in obtaining the requisite signatures for this form and initiating OBFS paperwork for the county resolution.

The Office of Grants Development is located in Room 230 of the Norman F. Lechtrecker Building on the Ammerman Campus and may be reached by phone at 451-4076 and fax at 451-4216.

INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPLIES AND EQUIPMENT

All requests for instructional supplies and equipment must be submitted in writing by appropriate area/department administrators. After academic approvals, the business office processes purchase orders.

KEYS

In order to acquire keys, a key request form must be obtained from the campus Business Office. The form must be approved by the department head and building administrator. The completed form is returned to the Business Office where the key is issued. All master keys must be approved by the Campus Executive Dean.

All keys must be returned to the Business Office when they are no longer needed because of room changes, campus reassignment, or termination of employment.

LEARNING CENTERS

The learning centers on each campus provide students with the opportunity to improve their skills and gain a deeper understanding of course content in a supportive, non-threatening atmosphere. A variety of self-paced instructional modules, audio-visual materials and computer software enable the centers to support the entire college curricula. The center staffs, which include professional and trained student tutors, provide tutoring services to all students enrolled in the college. Diagnostic testing is also available for students in order to determine their skill proficiencies and readiness for specific courses. Once their level of proficiency is ascertained, students then have the opportunity to seek individualized help in areas of weakness
