What is Writing to Learn?

Writing to Learn at SCCC is an initiative that encourages faculty and departments to use writing as a learning tool.  The degree to which writing is used in individual classes is left to the discretion of the instructor or the department.

Why use writing as a learning tool?

Students often learn subjects better, and retain information for longer periods of time, when writing assignments are incorporated into the classroom.  Similarly, students who write frequently about course-related topics are often more engaged during class meetings and discussion.

Where can I get help on my writing?

In addition to speaking with your instructor for help with your writing, SCCC offers a number of resources for students who need help with their writing, including The Writing Center on the Ammerman Campus, the Academic Skills Center on the Grant Campus, and the Academic Skills Center on the East Campus.
